Lopez Laughs Off Book Plans
2 May 2005
Superstar Jennifer Lopez has dumped plans to write a how-to-be-a-celerity book - because nobody would buy it. Despite conquering the music, movie, fashion and fragrance markets, Lopez admits her talents are stunted when it comes to literature. After years of being a paparazzi target, J.Lo claimed she was the perfect person to write a book "about how to deal with that, so maybe I'll do that next". However, after thinking the idea over, Lopez has decided, "Nobody likes to hear somebody in the public eye who they feel makes a lot of money complain, so we don't, but it is a very strange thing. I'll write a book just for celebrities? No, I'll make no money, it's not worth it."

A new primetime television series featuring the Muppets is currently in early production in England, and the producers have lined up some big-name stars, including Jennifer Lopez and Ricky Gervais, star of the original British version of The Office, the London Times, reported today (Thursday). The original Muppet Show, which aired during the '70s and '80s and became one of the most profitable syndicated TV series in history, was also produced in England, as were many of the feature films starring the Jim Henson characters. Now owned by Disney, the Muppets Holding Company is also planning new forays into television (upcoming: an ABC special on May 20, The Muppets' Wizard of Oz) music, stage shows, theme parks, and the Internet. The Times noted that even mobile-phone wallpaper, ring tones, and mobile video clips will be coming within a few months.

Lopez Under Threat From Animal Rights Group
21 April 2005
Jennifer Lopez has been named as a target for animal rights campaigners thanks to her controversial taste for wearing real fur. People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA) label the star an "apathetic fur hag" and have issued a chilling warning - they will be waiting for her at public and US television appearances. PETA's vice president Dan Mathews tells Page Six.Com, "PETA has her in our sights. On April 29, we'll be waiting for her outside Jay Leno's Tonight show studios at 4pm with a 30 foot inflatable beaver with a banner saying, 'Fur - Leave it to Beaver.' We'll have a massive protest at the LA premiere of Monster-in-Law with posters showing Lopez in pelts and the logo of the movie adapted to read 'Monster-in-Fur'. We'll also be at the Atlanta premiere she's supposed to attend with Jane Fonda on May 5. Maybe Jane can inform the apathetic fur hag what a protest is."
Affleck Seeking Stars for Directional Debut
15 April 2005
Hollywood heart-throb Ben Affleck is seeking two actors to take the leading roles in his big screen directorial debut. The Daredevil star has only directed once before - a short film entitled I Killed My Lesbian Wife, Hung Her On A Meat Hook, And Now I Have A Three-Picture Deal At Disney - while Affleck was at college in 1993. Affleck is adapting Dennis Lehane's best-selling book Gone, Baby Gone into a screenplay, as well as directing. The Oscar-winner bought the rights to kidnap mystery novel in 2002 and originally planned to star in the film adaptation alongside his then-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez. Affleck plans to start shooting the movie in Boston, Massachusetts, this autumn for Disney Pictures, despite admitting he has only cast the supporting roles. He says, "To me, I feel like the supporting actors are the most important. You're only as strong as the weakest link. I'm going to fill the supporting roles before going for the protagonist."
Lopez Running From the Paparazzi
13 April 2005
Jennifer Lopez sparked a security alert at a weekend press conference in Los Angeles after paparazzi raced through Beverly Hills trying to get a glimpse of the star. Lopez was in town to promote her new film Monster-in-Law, and was terrified when she became the target of a mad driver. She says, "They were following us and we almost got into a car accident. I'm astounded by the aggressiveness. It's just getting worse and worse. They (paparazzi) feel like it's a game, like they're playing cops and robbers and they're spies. It's crazy. I was talking to my assistant and all of a sudden my driver was taking a left right by the police station in Beverly Hills. All of a sudden this car goes right in front of us. It was paparazzi trying to beat the light on the same turn with us. I got goose pimples. I didn't realize we were being pursued because I try to block this stuff out. It's the only way to live. You don't want to think about being stalked all the time." To make sure Lopez's nightmare ended there, publicists handed out pink wristbands to invited press and refused entry to the press conference to anyone who didn't have one.
PETA Fight Back at Lopez
11 April 2005
Animal campaigners People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA) are continuing their campaign against Jennifer Lopez, after discovering she had an 'anti-J.Lo' ad removed from a music magazine. According to the New York Daily News, Lopez's representatives arranged for the full-page PETA ad, criticizing the use of animal fur in the singer's fashion line Sweetface, to be pulled from Billboard magazine. So the determined organisztion have taken out an ad in Radio And Records newspaper - in a bid to dent the promotional campaign for J.Lo's new album Rebirth. And it appears their campaign is working - after staging a rally outside a Lopez record signing in New York and another at her California restaurant, her new single "Hold You Down" sits at just 64th place in the American charts. PETA spokesperson Dan Mathews says, "Lopez may not stop wearing fur out of concern for animals, but she may out of concern for her career."
PETA: 'Lopez Forced Billboard To Drop Our Ad'
30 March 2005
Animal rights charity People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA) have accused Jennifer Lopez of bullying Billboard magazine into removing their full-page ad, which lambasted the star for wearing fur. The music magazine had agreed to run PETA's advert, which features a gruesome photo of a skinned animal beside an open letter to Lopez, attacking her for glamorizing fur in her new Sweetface clothing line and encouraging the "sadistic slaughter" of rabbits, minks, foxes and chinchillas. But on Monday Billboard cancelled the $5,000 ad, leading PETA Vice President Lisa Lange to conclude that the magazine "caved to pressure" from Lopez's record label Sony Corp's Epic Records and her publicist Nanci Ryder of Baker-Winokur-Ryder. Ryder admits, "I'm doing my job, which is protecting my client. I don't understand why PETA want to meet with Jennifer. In my opinion, there would be nothing worse than a meeting, unless in the meeting we could commit to not wearing fur and not using fur in fashion. Unless we could do that, I didn't quite understand where the meeting would go." PETA have retaliated by emailing the banned advert to hundreds of radio stations nationwide.
